GTA 6 on PC — Why It Is Not Launching Day One, and When to Expect It

GTA 6 arrives on PS5 and Xbox on 19 November 2026 with no PC version announced. Here is why Rockstar does this, what history tells us about the wait, and what the realistic window looks like.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced PC version. This is the single most asked question we get, so here is the full picture.

What Rockstar has actually said

Rockstar has confirmed the console release date and has not announced a PC release date. That is the complete, verified position. Anyone telling you they know the PC date is speculating.

Importantly, Rockstar has also not said PC is cancelled or not happening. Silence on a date is not the same as a denial.

Why console-first keeps happening

Three reasons, and none of them are about disliking PC players.

Fixed hardware is simpler to ship. A PS5 is a PS5. Every unit performs identically. PC means thousands of GPU and CPU combinations, driver versions and configurations. Shipping both simultaneously roughly doubles the QA surface at the exact moment a studio can least afford instability.

Launch windows are commercial decisions. Console launches concentrate sales and marketing into one date. A later PC release gives the game a second commercial moment — and a second wave of press coverage — a year or more down the line.

Piracy and anti-cheat. Online economies are central to modern GTA revenue. Rockstar has historically wanted its online infrastructure settled before exposing it to the PC modding environment.

What history suggests

The pattern is consistent across the series:

  • **GTA IV** — console November 2008, PC December 2008. About one month.
  • **GTA V** — console September 2013, PC April 2015. About eighteen months.
  • **Red Dead Redemption 2** — console October 2018, PC November 2019. About thirteen months.

  • The two most recent major Rockstar releases landed in a twelve-to-eighteen month window. If GTA VI follows that pattern, a PC release somewhere between late 2027 and mid 2028 is the reasonable expectation.

To be explicit: that is a pattern-based estimate, not information. Rockstar has announced nothing.

What PC players should do now

Do not buy hardware yet. Building a machine in late 2026 for a game that may arrive in 2028 is the worst possible timing. GPU generations will turn over at least once in between. Whatever you buy now will be mid-range by the time you need it.

Ignore leaked system requirements. Every supposed GTA VI PC spec sheet circulating right now is fabricated. Requirements cannot exist in final form for a port that has not been announced.

Be careful with spoilers. A year-plus gap means the entire story will be public long before you play it. If that matters to you, plan for it.

Could it be different this time?

There is an argument that it might be. Current-gen consoles are architecturally much closer to PCs than the PS3 era was, which lowers the porting cost considerably. Several large publishers have moved to same-day PC releases for exactly that reason.

But Rockstar is not most publishers, and it has not signalled a change in approach. Plan for the long wait and treat anything shorter as a pleasant surprise.

We will update this page the moment Rockstar announces anything official.
